Information for Those College Lane Patients Currently Receiving:

DEPO-Medroxyprogesterone IM Injections

Or

Those Considering It as A Form Of Contraception

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic and the emergence of a new Self-administered contraceptive injection called Sayana Press, we have decided to offer training and instruction to our patients who may want to consider the convenience of Sayana Press as an alternative to 12 weekly appointments at our Practice.

We will continue to offer Depo injections with our nurses so if you wish to continue please contact the surgery in the usual ways to book your injection.

However, if you want to consider the option of delivering the injection in the comfort of your own home every 12 weeks then please see the below information!

Both methods are the same medication, just delivered in different ways. The Sayana Press is delivered as a subcutaneous injection (Picture 1) thus the needle is much smaller. Picture 2 shows the intramuscular route.

If you are interested in using Sayana Press as your form of contraception then please speak to Reception or submit an Online Consultation via the Airmid App.

Contraceptive Pill Review

If you would like to request a repeat prescription of the contraceptive pill you are currently taking and you are due a review of this medicine then Reception can now send your Pill Check Questionnaire via text message.

If you are having any problems with your pill (such as troublesome bleeding) or would like to discuss alternative contraception please make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss this.

We have a dedicated area in practice for you to do the necessary checks required like your Blood Pressure and Height/Weight. These are an important part of the review but feel free to do these measurements at home if you have the ability to do this.

Following completion of your questionnaire, this information will then be sent to the practice team and your prescription should be available within 7 days. If there are any problems with your request we will contact you.
